I’m happy to hear YouTube Premium still works, that’s one Google service I can’t live without anymore. Thanks a lot for the detailed information! I’m 99% sure I’ll get myself a Gsuite Google Workspace account, I feel like it’s worth the trade offs, I’ll be keeping my current Google account as secondary Google account for my Google Home devices and for using Stadia once in a while. It's just not as one sided as a log of reddit posts make it seem :) I'm not going to lie though, it's a trade off. So my advice to dual-wield - workspace for primary domains and private email (commercial, family, etc.) and a personal gmail account that you only use for Google services that need it. I'm on the highest tier account (which still has effectively unlimited storage) but even on the lower tiers our account reps have been happy to work with us to add space when needed (often free, YMMV). much better security and account recovery. no ads and a privacy policy that favours YOU for a change. incredible voice support (we're on Entrerprise+ but I manage a pile of domains on and even the Business Basic support is not awful). Somethings you get later than others, so if you want to test things out, definitely make a throw away personal gmail or two. Not a big gamer but wanted to try it on the free trial for Youtube premium (which works fine with workspace accounts) - can't because my paying youtube account is a workspace account and Stadia needs personal accounts. We use a personal gmail account for all our home related stuff (Nest, Hue's etc.) and rely on chromecasting for media display mainly (which doesn't care which home users are in as long as they can see the cast devices). ![]() Google Home continues to be a crap show for paid accounts. To make things even more restrictive, most of our accounts are using Advanced Protection (which makes a few more Google Services unavailable).Ībout the only things that have annoyed me this last year: Thanks in advance for your help and information!Īs a counterpoint to the below (which are all valid downsides!) - I've been using Workspaces (in its previous incarnations) for almost 10 years now as my primary email server (from self hosting prior). I’d love to hear any other information and experiences from other people that use Workspace as a personal account. Do I have to register my domain with Google Domains too? And if not, is this recommended? ![]() My current domain isn’t in use anymore, but I’m still the owner. Will my mail address work the exact same way as a Gmail address? Will it use Gmail as “host” and will I be able to also use Gmail IMAP to use it with different email clients? (Or will it use my hosting server?)ĭoes YouTube Premium work with Workspace?Ĭan I use Google Home devices with Workspace? What are the limitations compared to a “normal” Google account? What are the cons? For example I know Workspace accounts can’t use Stadia nor Family Sharing. What are the (extra) pros besides using my own domain? That’s why I started thinking of using my domain and, for example, got a bunch of questions I didn’t find a (good) answer to, here they are: I don’t like/want any alterations or alternatives. I first planned on getting but unfortunately this is not available (I’ll spare you the story behind that). I’ve been thinking of getting a new mail account for a while now, my current Gmail address is pretty silly and unprofessional because I made it as a kid. Hey guys, I wish you all a wonderful new year! I’m thinking of getting a Google Workspace account for personal use but I have some questions I’d like answered before I make the switch.
